Doaa Shayea is out to break down misconceptions when she makes her Commonwealth Games debut at Glasgow 2026.
The Plymouth native wants to use her platform to shine a light on disability sport and what it means to be a Muslim woman when she competes in para powerlifting.
Shayea was initially a wheelchair racer before she was talent spotted for a switch to powerlifting in 2022 and has not looked back since.
Shayea studies sociology at the University of Plymouth alongside her training.
As a child, she had the honour of carrying the Paralympic torch in the run up to the London 2012 Games.
