Stroud judoka Harry Lovell-Hewitt, stepped up a weight class to compete in the 100kg class and eventually found himself on the Commonwealth Games podium.

Earlier in his career, he picked up a silver and a bronze at senior European Opens in 2019 and 2021 respectively.

The Gloucester Rugby fan was crowned junior national champion in successive years as he made his way in the sport.

Lovell-Hewitt is also a keen follower of everything combat sport related, including MMA and boxing.

The three-day Judo bonanza kicked off with Team England success in the form of a gold medal for Ashley McKenzie who came out on top in an all-English final against Sam Hall in the 60kg competition.
