Growing up, swimming was not the only sport James McFadzen was passionate about.
McFadzen was a rugby player and played regularly in Newbury until his late teens, where he switched his focus to pursue a swimming career.
The 23-year-old is still a huge rugby fan and is also a passionate skier and darts player, though his permanent move to the pool has paid off.
The Loughborough student has been a regular at British Swimming Championships and having met the qualifying criteria in April, will make his Team England and Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham.

Tom Dean aka “The SubmaDean” followed up his double Olympic triumph at Tokyo 2020 by making history in Birmingham, becoming the first Home Nations athlete to win seven medals at a single Commonwealth Games.
