Talented young pole vaulter Owen Heard almost quit the sport but bounced back to finish fifth on Commonwealth Games debut at Birmingham 2022.

Heard only booked his place in Birmingham in June after deciding to give it one last go following mental struggles in trying to reach his full potential.

And the Loughborough University student rose to the challenge in Birmingham to place in the top five.

Heard achieved the qualification standard of 5.45m at Manchester’s Sportcity in the BoXX United World Athletics Continental Tour meet.
